He was a man and I a boy, he was a thief and I was honest, he had seen the world and I had not, but I knew evil better than he did.

Awesome quote! Ursula LeGuin is at the Top of my Too Read List as soon as I get done with the City and the City. Any recommendations?
PS: Are you at all disappointed that China Mieville will be talking about International Law instead of monsters at S 09? I ranted about that at a radicals party on Memorial day.

Oooh, this is a cool new twist instead of “Waiting on Wednesday” Is this going to be a regular feature? (I love the quote too, by the way).

By that way, that was me, not anonymous.

Jesse: I loved GIFTS (and I’m planning to blog more about it this week), but — I feel I should be whispering this — I didn’t really get into LeGuin’s most famous & celebrated book for adults, THE LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS.
And, I kind of wish China Mieville were speaking about monsters, but I bet his international law talk will be really good. For those who don’t know what we’re talking about, it’s the Socialism 2009 conference, where adult & YA science fiction author China Mieville will be speaking. (As will I. But also, sadly, not about monsters.)
Heather: Thanks! Yes, we do Wednesday Words every week. It’s one of my favorite features because when I find a line in a book that I really love, I always want to share it. But being one of those “Can I read this to you?” people is never really a good idea. Wednesday Words = solution!
