How old do you think this kid is???
I love the way he nods his head. And when he pauses and looks like he’s going to pick his nose, but he’s just scratching his face.
I feel like the stereotype of adults reading kids’ books is that they are somehow debasing themselves, but let’s face it: I will never, at any age, be as cool as this kid.
Oh, and yes, that is a ukulele he’s playing. I’d like to hook him up with Stephin Merritt, but it’s possible the world would explode.

A kindergarten student at my school impersonated John Lennon for Chautauqua this year. He had a guitar and sang “I Saw Her Standing There” with the full measure of vocal enthusiasm brought by Lennon. It was SO brilliant, and I will certainly never be that cool.

I wonder if kids’ uninhibitedness makes them more able to do stuff like this (with, as you said, the full-on vocal enthusiasm), or if adults COULD do it, but we’d actually just judge them harshly if they did.
I also just think it’s amazing how this kid doesn’t know any of the words but can get the tone just right. That’s how I hear music too (I’m really terrible at distinguishing lyrics — although great at remembering them once I’ve heard them in the first place, the latter trait coming from my dad, who I think has at least twenty percent of his long term memory devoted to song lyrics), but of course I am too embarrassed to show it off like this awesome kid…
